Understanding the Band Designate Role

The role of the Band Designate as defined by Child, Youth, and Intervention Act is to:

  • Represent and support Whitefish Lake First Nation children that are currently in the care of the Government of Alberta or other Government Agencies.

  • Address child protection matters, ensuring children's rights to their culture and community are upheld.

  • Ensuring that Whitefish Lake First Nation children have access to their cultural heritage and community connections within the child welfare system; and 

  • Advocate on behalf of all Whitefish Lake First Nation and its members or eligible individuals.
