
About the Role
Atikameg Child & Family Services Society is a Delegated First Nation Child & Family Organization that was created to promote a healthy and self-sustaining community, utilize a holistic (body, mind, and spirit} approach in meeting the needs of the children, youth, and families from Whitefish Lake First Nation. The Atikameg Child & Family Services Society's main office is in Atikameg, Alberta with a sub-office located in Edmonton, Alberta.
Reporting to the Prevention Manager of Atikameg Child and Family Services. The Prevention Worker is responsible to support the delivery of the Prevention Program with a focus on community practices and beliefs and in accordance with accepted practices, standards, and legislative requirements. The position will provide support to Whitefish Lake First Nation members accessing the Prevention Program enhancing their abilities to care for children and youth supporting family wellness.
Duties:
Maintain, develop, and create case management plans for prevention clients identifying their unique needs and requests to support family wellness;
Working knowledge of family dynamics, child development, mental health, addictions, crisis intervention, parenting skills, life skills, budget strategies, and family support systems;
Proven ability to encourage or provide prevention programs that are primary, secondary, and tertiary with traditional or conventional services;
Process and maintain records of prevention client’s expenses and reports;
Facilitate, attend, and participate in Case conferences and/or foster parent/ kinship care support meetings to ensure programming effectiveness, as requested; and
Support the delivery of workshops/training to meet the needs of children, youth, parents, and community events.
The Prevention Worker is a key team member and may be asked to carry out additional duties and activities related to the effectiveness and successful operations of the Atikameg Child & Family Services Prevention Program.
Qualifications:
Social Work or related Diploma/Certificate; and
4 years of related experience
At minimum must possess a Community Support Worker Micro Credential offered by Northwestern Polytechnic or Human Service Certificate and/or Diploma.
Additional Requirements:
Current and valid Alberta driver's license;
Child & Youth Information Module (CYIM) and Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) clearances;
Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language is a strong asset.
