
About the Role
Atikameg Child & Family Services Society is a Delegated First Nation Child & Family Organization that was created to promote a healthy and self-sustaining community, utilize a holistic (body, mind, and spirit) approach in meeting the needs of the children, youth, and families from Whitefish Lake First Nation. The Atikameg Child & Family Services Society’s main office is in Atikameg, Alberta with a sub-office located in Edmonton, Alberta.
Reporting to the CFS Manager of Atikameg Child and Family Services. The Foster/Kinship Worker is responsible for the delivery of the Foster Care and Kinship Care Program with a focus on community practices and beliefs and in accordance with accepted practices, standards, and legislative requirements. The position will provide support to foster parents and kinship care providers enhancing their abilities to care for children and youth in care.
Requirements
Duties:
Recruit, select, train and support First Nation Foster Parents, Kinship Care Providers, and families within the Whitefish Lake First Natin and also extended families off-reserve;
Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of each foster care placement ensuring placements are based on the assessment of children and youth’s needs;
Document Child/Youth and foster parent information and draft reports using accreditation standards and the CICIO System;
Process and maintain records of foster parent expenses;
Facilitate, attend, and participate in Case conferences and/or foster parent / kinship care support meetings to ensure programming effectiveness;
Complete foster parent home studies using SAFE Model;
Evaluate foster parent homes and their practices;
Arranging or facilitating workshops/training to meet the needs of children, youth, parents, and community.
The Foster/Kinship Worker is a key team member and may be asked to carry out additional duties and activities related to the effectiveness and successful operations of the Atikameg Child & Family Services Foster and Kinship Program.
Qualifications:
Social Work or related Diploma/Certificate; and
4 years of related experience.
Additional Requirements:
Current and valid Alberta driver’s license;
Child & Youth Information Module (CYIM) and Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) clearances;
Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language a strong asset.
